Enrichment

In addition to the curriculum we provide an extensive programme of extracurricular clubs and activities.

Through our Primary Link teacher and our link with Oakbank Sports College, we access a wide range of sporting activities. Over the past year we have had school teams participate in multi-skills athletics festivals, the Keighley schools football league, cricket training, a netball league, basketball, tri-golf, a school’s tag rugby league, running competitions  and the Keighley Cougars tackle rugby competition, to name but a few.

After school sports clubs have included athletics, running, football, netball and Tae Kwando. We also take part in the Bradford Road Safety team Cycling Proficiency training for Year 4 pupils.

We have good musical provision and run a weekly Singing Club which takes place before school on a Tuesday morning. Members of the club take part in the Young Voices concert where over 5000 children from all over the North of England get together to perform.  They also take part in the annual Christmas Lights of Love service held at the village Sue Ryder Care hospice and perform at the village Millennium Green summer fete.

In addition several of our children have made appearances in professional stage productions in Bradford, Halifax, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield.

LINKING SCHOOLS

We have worked with the Keighley Linking Schools project and linked with other schools in the Keighley district, particularly ones with more ethnically diverse populations, enriching pupils’ experience and building firm foundations for their future life in a multicultural society.  Activities have included an Asian dance project, (culminating in a performance at the Bradford Schools’ Prom), cycling, a joint visit to Nell Bank activity centre and a day of sports at Marley Sports Centre.

HUFF AND PUFF

Every lunchtime children are able to take part in Huff and Puff activities. These are organised by Mrs Jodie Mercer, one of our support assistants. Children have access to playtime equipment such as, for example, skipping ropes, stilts and bats and balls and are shown how to use the equipment to make up play time games. Both Key Stage 1 and 2 children enjoy these sessions. In the Summer Term the Year 6 Children are encouraged to take part in a Young Leader course, which not only benefits their leadership skills but means they can also get involved directing the play of the younger children.

WAKE UP & SHAKE UP

Wake up and shake up takes place in the playground 4 mornings a week from 8:45 to 8:55. These sessions of movement and exercise set to music are proving very enjoyable and popular with the children, with an increasing number of parents also joining their children in these fun sessions.
